Bounty Hunter's Tracker IV detector offers the excitement and profit of metal detecting at an accessible price, making it ideal for those just getting started. With a fully submersible, 8-inch Bounty D-Tech search coil, the Tracker IV features three different operating modes to help you hit pay dirt. Motion all-metals mode responds to any metals you sweep over, full discrimination mode rejects iron and other trash items, and tone discrimination alerts you with one or two audio pitches for different types of metals. The Tracker IV does not have the LCD that many of Bounty Hunter's other models boast, featuring instead a large Sensitivity Meter. Ground Trac, a feature that automatically balances the machine to the soil conditions, makes the Tracker IV a tremendous value. Users will also enjoy Bounty Hunter's comprehensive, easy-to-understand online tutorial and downloadable manual at www.detecting.com. The Tracker IV runs off of two 9-volt alkaline batteries and boasts a five-year limited warranty. --Ariel Meadow Stallings

The Carbera line from Chicago Cutlery features traditional three-rivet styling, yet the handles are made of white polymer for a clean, bright, contemporary look. Even the slots in the hardwood storage block are lined with the white polymer, while the top is surfaced with stainless steel. A chrome bar supports the block in front. Each knife features a forged, high-carbon stainless-steel blade that has been honed with the company's exclusive Taper Grind technology for optimum sharpness. The full-tang construction adds weight and strength for good balance and stability. Along with the hardwood block, this 12-piece set includes the following 11 utensils: four steak knives; 3-1/2-inch paring knife; 5-inch utility knife; 5-inch partoku; 7-inch santoku; 8-inch serrated bread knife; kitchen shears; and 8-inch sharpening steel. A partoku, for those unfamiliar with the term, is a combination paring knife and santoku, the Asian-style, thin-slicing chef's knife that has become a staple of American kitchens in recent years. Chicago Cutlery recommends hand-washing its knives, and covers them with a limited lifetime warranty. With the utensils placed in the block, the set measures 13 by 4-1/2 by 12 inches. --Ann Bieri What's in the Box 12-piece cutlery set. The first time you listen to this disc you will undoubtedly be transported directly back to your childhood. Charles Schulz's Peanuts characters will go toe-tapping and funky-dancing through your mind's eye. Play it a few more times, though (ignoring the dialogue snippets, if you can), and you will begin to truly revel in Guaraldi's wonderful, humorous, deep piano playing. You'll hear why he's such an influence on new age ivory tickler George Winston, but you'll also realize that Winston's holiday music never quite sparkles with the underlying passion, and humor, that twinkles in these grooves. Buy it for the nostalgia--keep it because it will remain one of the most enchanting albums in your holiday collection. --Michael Ruby

Having sung before royalty and performed with the Irish super-group Celtic Woman, Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, and Welsh baritone Bryn Terfel, the very young and remarkably beautiful singer is back with a tribute to her Celtic ancestry. As with her previous Platinum-selling releases (she is already a huge star in her native New Zealand, Japan, Australia, and the UK), the orchestrations are lush, with sighing phalanxes of strings and woodwinds. But in keeping with the avowed theme, there are also soft touches of soulful, wavering tin whistles and vaguely fiddle-like violin vamps. The program is more varied than the album's title might lead one to expect, encompassing everything from "The Last Rose Of Summer" and "Danny Boy" to "Shenandoah," "Scarborough Fair," "Abide With Me," and even a couple of more pop-oriented songs penned by Westenra herself. However, brief sideways winks toward Nashville or the Great White Way do not adulterate the album's overall mood of ethereal, remote bliss. The one misstep is an English-language cover of "Un Bel Di" ("One Fine Day") from Puccini's Madama Butterfly: an aria unsuited to the artist's fragile, bell-like soprano and placid temperament. This aside, established classical crossover/theatrical divas like Sarah Brightman would be wise to begin looking to their laurels. -- Christina Roden

A tale about a fatherless boy finding dramatically different father figures throughout a remarkable adventure, Treasure Island is an entertaining coming-of-age story, with themes of family, loyalty, friendship, trust, and honesty at its core. While Robert Louis Stevenson's classic adventure tale is popular film fare, it's never been done this well. Charlton Heston stars as Long John Silver and Christian Bale as plucky Jim Hawkins in this TNT production. Directed by Heston's son Fraser (who also directed the excellent family fare Alaska), the film remains faithful to the novel, and draws much of the spirit and excitement of the book. The action scenes are first-rate, and if the ship Hispaniola has never looked better or more authentic, no surprise: the ship is the original from 1962's Mutiny on the Bounty. The opening scenes are dark and rich, as they capture the period well, with careful attention to makeup (the teeth, the body grime!) and costuming. Oliver Reed and Christopher Lee are frighteningly effective as Capt. Billy Bones and Blind Pew, and the film's first half-hour is theirs. The tone shifts and lightens when Heston appears as the legendary pirate. Look for Pete Postlethwaite, Julian Glover, and Richard Johnson in wonderful supporting roles. The film marks Bale's segue from poignantly promising child actor ( Empire of the Sun) to compelling teen (he would later continue to prove his talent as a versatile young actor in Little Women and Velvet Goldmine). --N.F. Another of Disney's efforts to create a quickie animated feature film out of one of its daily TV shows, this one plays like a low-rent reworking of Aladdin. Still, with Scrooge McDuck (voiced by Alan Young) and nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie, there's fun to be had. And that includes the genie (voiced by comic Rip Taylor) and the villains voiced by Christopher Lloyd and Richard Libertini. The plot centers on Scrooge's search for lost treasure; the kids come up with the magic lamp with the genie in it, which is sought by an evil magician. Everyone gets into the act of making wishes and seeing them come true, until the bad guy gets a hold of the lamp. Mostly for young viewers. --Marshall Fine

Kids love this Muppet take on Robert Louis Stevenson's pirate classic, about the pirate Long John Silver (Tim Curry) and his takeover of a ship in order to track down buried treasure. His friend and then nemesis is earnest cabin boy Jim Hawkins (Kevin Bishop), who teams with the captain of the ship (Kermit the Frog) and several shipmates (including Gonzo, Ratso, and Fozzie) to foil Long John's nefarious plot. An odd subplot finds Captain Kermit stopping at a desert island to find his long-lost love (Miss Piggy--who else?). The Muppets have not lost their wild sense of humor, which works on enough levels to amply entertain children and their parents in imaginative fashion. --Marshall Fine

More Physicians and Nutritionists are advocating greater intake of water. Some say it's best to drink at least 2-liters per day. Apart from cellular needs, it helps the flow of digestion which, in turn, helps promote nutrient disbursement and excretory regularity to help maintain balance. Unfortunately, not all drinking water is up to taste or purity standards due to ground water table issues or supply sources. That's where bottled water or filtered water are needed. The choice is up to you. If you're buying bottled water, chances are you're doing so because you prefer the taste and trust the quality of bottled over tap. You're also paying more and missing out on the simple convenience of just running the faucet for drinking water. The cost of water from a home filtration system is approximately 78% less per gallon than bottled. Over the long-term, the cost comparison between bottled and filtered can be quite significant. Once you own a home filtration system, your only expense lies in changing the disposable filter. Available at a lower cost than many bottled water sources, PUR home water filters and pitchers offer an easy, simpler way to get clean, better-tasting tap water from home. The Pur CR5000 continues the reliable tradition of water filtration pitchers with which Pur has become famous. Long-lasting, replaceable filters help remove most minerals and pollutants to deliver softer, better-tasting, and healthier drinking water. But the CR5000 adds space for yet another water device - a flavor enhancer. It adds a natural fruit flavor to the taste of the water - a sort of light essence to the taste - without adding sugar or calories. It's pure water with a little taste of flavor. When you get the CR5000, it comes with one Raspberry cartridge. Optional cartridges are available (in 2 packs): FC500P (Peach); FC500R (Raspberry); FC500S (Strawberry). Either way, you've the choice. Less engrossing than its 2004 predecessor National Treasure, Jon Turteltaub's busy sequel National Treasure: Book of Secrets is nevertheless a colorful and witty adventure, another race against overwhelming odds for the answer to a historical riddle. Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage), the treasure hunter who feverishly sought, in the first film, the whereabouts of a war chest hidden by America's forefathers, is now charged with protecting family honor. When a rival (Ed Harris) offers alleged proof that Gates' ancestor, Thomas Gates, was not a Civil War-era hero but a participant in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, Ben and his father (Jon Voight) and crew (Justin Bartha, Diane Kruger) hopscotch through Paris, London, Washington DC, and South Dakota to gather evidence refuting the claim. The film is most fun when the hunt, as in National Treasure, squeezes Ben into such impossible situations as examining twin desks in the queen's chambers in Buckingham Palace and the White House's Oval Office, or kidnapping an American president (Bruce Greenwood) for a few minutes of frank talk. Helen Mirren, the previous year's Oscar winner for Best Actress, wisely joins the cast of a likely hit film as Ben's archaeologist mother, long-estranged from Voight's character but as feisty as the rest of the family. Returning director Turteltaub takes excellent advantage of his colorful backdrops in European capitals and the always-eerie Mount Rushmore, and oversees some wildly imaginative sets for this dramedy's feverish third act in an audacious and completely unexpected, legendary setting. If National Treasure: Book of Secrets doesn't feel quite as crisp and unique as its predecessor, it is still ingenious and wry enough to laugh a bit at itself. --Tom Keogh Stills from National Treasure: Book of Secrets (click for larger image)

Only Joel and Ethan Coen, the fraternal director and producer team behind art-house hits such as The Big Lebowski and Fargo and masters of quirky and ultra-stylish genre subversion, would dare nick the plot line of Homer's Odyssey for a comic picaresque saga about three cons on the run in 1930s Mississippi. Our wandering hero in this case is one Ulysses Everett McGill, a slick-tongued wise guy with a thing about hair pomade (George Clooney, blithely sending up his own dapper image) who talks his chain-gang buddies (Coen-movie regular John Turturro and newcomer Tim Blake Nelson) into lighting out after some buried loot he claims to know of. En route they come up against a prophetic blind man on a railroad truck, a burly, one-eyed baddie (the ever-magnificent John Goodman), a trio of sexy singing ladies, a blues guitarist who's sold his soul to the devil, a brace of crooked politicos on the stump, a manic-depressive bank robber, and--well, you get the idea. Into this, their most relaxed film yet, the Coens have tossed a beguiling ragbag of inconsequential situations, a wealth of looping, left-field dialogue, and a whole stash of gags both verbal and visual. O Brother (the title's lifted from Preston Sturges's classic 1941 comedy Sullivan's Travels) is furthermore graced with glowing, burnished photography from Roger Deakins and a masterly soundtrack from T-Bone Burnett that pays loving homage to American '30s folk styles--blues, gospel, bluegrass, jazz, and more. And just to prove that the brothers haven't lost their knack for bad-taste humor, we get a Ku Klux Klan rally choreographed like a cross between a Nuremberg rally and a Busby Berkeley musical. --Philip Kemp

Broadcast to record ratings on the TNT cable network, this Raiders-esque adventure does not go by the book, staring with its atypical action hero and his decidedly uncool profession. Flynn Carsen (Noah Wylie from E.R.) is a thirtysomething perpetual student who still lives with his mother (Olympia Dukakis). When his exasperated professor finally ejects him into the real world, Carsen's Holmesian deductive acumen lands him a job as the librarian at the Metropolitan Library. This is not an ordinary library. It houses history's most mythic artifacts, including the Ark of the Covenant, Pandora's Box, and the sword Excalibur. The fate of the world is in Carsen's hands ("That's so sad," he observes) when the dread Serpent Brotherhood steals the library's Spear of Destiny, and Carsen must retrieve it. His reluctant, and antagonistic, partner is Nicole (Sonya Walger), who is as skilled in martial arts as Carsen is schooled in the Dewey Decimal System. Bob Newhart and Jane Curtin add welcome comic relief, with Newhart, of all people, getting into the action by film's end. The humble hero (who would rather be known as "Flynn, the rather pleasant at parties"), somewhat cheesy special effects, and corny comedy make The Librarian a fun guilty pleasure. As Carsen proclaims, "Being a librarian is actually a cool job." This looks like the beginning of a beautiful franchise. --Donald Liebenson
