Motion-activated lights are convenient and energy efficient, but they can be a little bulky and awkward to look at-in the driveway is fine, but you wouldn't want to put one on your porch. Unless it's one of Heath Zenith's porch lights, that is. These products give you the best of both worlds, combining motion-activation and traditional outdoor-light design.The SL-4192 is a six-sided wall-mount lantern that includes a hidden motion-sensing device that detects movement in a 180-degree radius up to a distance of 30 feet. You can set the light timer to one, five, or ten minutes, and the sensor itself may be adjusted to give you more or less sensitivity (so it doesn't light up every time a car drives by). The weather-resistant aluminum construction means it's going to look good for a while, too. This model also features "Dual Brite" lighting, which means you can use it for low-level accent lighting in addition to the full-light effect you get with motion-activation. An included timer allows you to set low-light mode for three hours, six hours, or dusk to dawn (an automatic photocell deactivates the unit in daylight). You can also turn the light on and off at will via the manual override that mounts to an existing indoor switch. If you're looking to save a little money on outdoor lighting by installing a motion-detector, this is a great option that won't look out of place. But O'Rourke is also a serious guitarophile, equally awestruck by John Fahey's open-ended takes on rural and Delta blues, and by Derek Bailey's unwavering free improvisation. O'Rourke's Bad Timing is replete with twisty blues plucking that spins like a series of tops winding around on a well-polished floor. The melodic lines O'Rourke concocts as a soloist on "There's Hell in Hello but More in Goodbye" are unnerving in their clarity and precision, not to mention their close-hewn structural integrity. And the rest of Bad Timing is all about construction: building an acoustic session out of various horns, guitar, piano, hints of percussion, and an ear for both ambient music and absolute sound. O'Rourke keeps enough delicacy in Bad Timing that it'll be plenty safe sound furniture, but when you listen up, the details will blow you away. --Andrew Bartlett |

A fantastic find! This Talking Timer has three great functions: it has a talking countdown timer, a talking clock and a count-up timer. There is an Auto repeat function that restarts the countdown automatically when time's up and the Memory function lets you store one countdown time so you don't have to keep resetting. There are also six different alarm sounds for different activities when using the countdown feature: the standard "beep", a whistling teapot, cuckoo sound, bell, car horn and boing sound. It can be set for up to 23 hours, 59 minutes. If set for more than an hour, it will automatically announce each hour remaining until one hour is left. Then it will announce every ten minutes then every ten seconds and finally each second. The count-up timer function does not have a verbal mode. The voice function can also be turned off. |
