- Radiant heaters emit infrared radiation that directly warms the objects in front of the heaters (rather than the surrounding air). If you only need heat by a desk or in a small section of a room, a radiant heater is quiet and will use very little power.
- Forced-air heaters use a fan to blow air that has been warmed by metal or ceramic heating elements. A forced-air heater is appropriate for quickly heating up a small- to medium-sized room, but can be noisy.
- Convection heaters draw cold air from the floor; the air is warmed by heating coils and emitted from the top of the heater. A convection heater is appropriate for quickly heating up a small- to medium-sized room, but also can be noisy.
- Radiators work by heating oil enclosed in a reservoir, gradually heating the surrounding air. If heating speed isn't an issue, you might want to opt for a radiator. These are extremely quiet and effective--perfect for bedrooms.
- Calculate the volume of the space to be heated by multiplying square footage by height.
- Multiply that number by 4 if your insulation is poor, 3 if it's average, or 2 if it's good.
- Print speeds up to 36 ppm
- High resolution photo capabilities up to 4800 optimized dpi
- Bluetooth and PictBridge compatibility
- An automatic Duplexing Feature
- An expandable 150-sheet paper tray
Great for commuters, office professionals, and one-coffee-drinker households, this personal coffeemaker brews 15 ounces of coffee directly into a stainless-steel travel mug. The mug has a rubber handle for a safe grip and a lid to keep coffee hot. It's tapered to a 2-1/2-inch-diameter bottom, so it fits most vehicle cup holders. The coffeemaker itself is designed for an on-the-go coffee drinker. It has a permanent filter--no messy disposable paper filters required--and shuts off automatically after brewing. The mug, filter, filter basket, and mug lid are dishwasher-safe, and the coffeemaker can also be used to heat water for tea, hot chocolate, and instant foods like oatmeal and soup. Made of gleaming black plastic, it measures 9-3/4 inches high, 7 inches wide, and 6 inches deep, and carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack |

With futuristic looks and high-tech construction, Bodum's Pavina drinkware makes an exciting departure from traditional glassmaking. Each vessel is crafted of two layers of clear borosilicate glass, creating an optical illusion that the liquid floats freely inside. Used for scientific lab equipment, borosilicate is exceptionally strong, lightweight, and thermal. The double walls also make the glasses heat-resistant and condensation-free-so hands and tables and stay safe. Winner of the prestigious European IF Design Award, Pavina's shapes are cheerfully rounded and versatile in size to suit many serving needs. Because the glasses are mouth blown, each one may have slight variations. The inner layer should be protected from sharp or heavy objects. Pavina goes safely into the dishwasher and microwave. |

Combining the thermal properties of an insulated vacuum bottle with the lightweight, flexible features of a plastic bottle, the Polar Bottle½ is the ideal choice for people on the move. Simply fill it with liquid and ice and hit the trail. For even longer cooling power, fill your Polar Bottle and store it in the freezer before use. Either way, you will keep liquids cold longer. |

As anyone who's been out in the cold knows, toasty feet go a long way toward keeping the rest of you warm. That's why using an Indus-Tool FW Cozy Foot warmer can help reduce your indoor heating costs. At only 90 watts, one of these units tucked under a desk allows you to turn the building thermostat down, thereby saving you money. The warmer is less costly to use than a space heater, and safer, too, as there are no exposed heating coils or carbon monoxide emissions. ETL listed. Lifetime warranty.--Josh DettweilerWhat's in the Box Five Tips for Buying a Heater What are the different types of space heaters? Should I buy an electric or a combustion model? How powerful a heater do I need? Do space heaters cost a lot to operate? Are space heaters a fire hazard? |

With a wider, brighter, and wilder sound than anything they've done in the past, this record adds walls of guitars, organs, and even a few "ballads" (a.k.a. slightly pretty songs) to the mix, while still retaining the gritty post-pop-punk sound for which they're globally famous. Recorded in the band's hometown of Portland, OR by Fugazi's Brendan Canty. |

Since so much three-chord punk has gotten stale, this Portland, Oregon trio often strips down to just two chords--which makes those moments when they do splurge on that third precious bundle of notes staggeringly climactic. The Thermals have just one basic melody, but it's a great one, and like the finest bluesmen, their brilliance is in the variations they work over these standard changes. Except these variations aren't solos--they're gradations of emotional tone and feedback burst and Hutch Harris' clearly enunciated rants. There's a political underpinning to this all--the lyrics on the elliptical yet scathing "God and Country" ("Pray for a new state/ Pray for assassination") draws the line pretty clearly. But even here, Harris chooses not to rail against the powers that be, but instead to express solidarity with a likeminded constituency, declaring "History will show our progress is slow/ When we win/ We win in inches." --Keith HarrisTags : Fuckin
