2008 remastered and expanded edition of the Replacements' album All Shook Down which includes bonus tracks. All Shook Down is the final album by the band released in 1990. For many The Replacements were simply one of the greatest rock bands ever as their music made them legends and inspired entire generation to think of them as cultural and musical heroes. The basis of most of the tunes lie in the acoustic guitar, with electric guitar fills here and there to add coloring. As always, Westerberg's signature word-play figures heavily into the lyrics. |
One more in Broadway's series of "jukebox musicals" (Mamma Mia, Movin' Out, Jersey Boys, etc.), All Shook Up features the songs of Elvis Presley. Cheyenne Jackson stars as Chad, the guitar-playing, pelvis-swiveling, blue-suede-shoe-wearing roustabout who arrives to shake up a mid-America town that's so buttoned up it forbids public necking, interracial dating, and loud music. Various romantic entanglements arise among Chad, grease-monkey/tomboy Natalie (Jenn Gambatese), her father (Jonathan Hadary), her friend Lorraine (Nikki M. James) and her mother (Sharon Wilkins), her best buddy (Mark Price), the mayor (Alix Korey), and the sexy new museum caretaker (Leah Hocking). The rest of the plot? Well, that's pretty much it, as the characters mostly run around trying to figure out who they're in love with, fitting in excuses to sing such Elvis hits as "Jailhouse Rock," "Can't Help Falling in Love," and "Don't Be Cruel." Jackson won the lead shortly after arriving on Broadway by way of Seattle community theater, then took a role in the movie of United 93. --David Horiuchi |
Director Tim Burton's adaptation of author Daniel Wallace's bittersweet Southern Gothic novel has been billed as his first mainstream character drama, a notion that conveniently ignores the story's inherent fables and flights of imagination. But composer Danny Elfman understands their every dark nook and murky cranny with this magical, often deftly understated score. While the epic melodrama of his comic book scores (Batman, Spider-Man, The Hulk, et. al.) have made him a mainstream Hollywood music star, longtime fans know that the composer's true emotional range is seldom tapped as well as it is working with longtime collaborator Burton. His music here bridges the delicate pastoralism of Rachel Portman and restless, rhythmic mysteries of Thomas Newman, seasoned with twangy fiddles and bowings to the film's occasionally Gothic turns and concludes with the deliciously loopy "Twice the Love (Siamese Twins Song)." Anchored by Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam's wistful theme song "Man of the Hour" and a half-dozen pop chart nuggets than span half-a-century, Elfman's work here (as well as Pearl Jam's) received a much-deserved Golden Globe nomination. --Jerry McCulley |
Inspired by the controversial E.C. Comics of the 1950s--which also provided the title and inspiration for the popular Tales from the Crypt TV series--director George Romero and screenwriter Stephen King serve up five delightfully frightful stories. Utilizing comic-book panels, animated segues, and exaggerated lighting and camera angles, Romero and cinematographer Michael Gornick come very close to replicating a horror comic in film format. The results mix fine acting with the morbid sense of humor and irony that made the E.C. books so popular in their heyday. Actors such as Leslie Nielsen, Hal Holbrook, Ted Danson, Adrienne Barbeau, Ed Harris, E.G. Marshall, and even King appear in the stories, which include tales of a sinister father's day celebration, a mysterious meteor, seaweed-draped zombies, a monster in a crate, and a cockroach-phobic millionaire. Fiendishly fun fare from one of horror's most famous directors. --Bryan ReesmanTags : Creepshow

All sandpaper is not created equal. As a result, we love Mirka paper. The backing is beefier than other papers, and to us, that means quality. Aluminum oxide grain is the choice of most woodworkers because it's sharp, durable and, best of all, long-lasting on the higher paper grades that won't shred on the edges. This assortment is perfect for professionals, homeowners, and hobbyists because it includes everything from stock-removing 80-grit to a nice 220 finishing grit. Yes, you can spend less on other sandpapers, but you'll end up spending more in the end. This is quality. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste |

The Mirka Hook & Loop sanding discs come on a B weight backing, giving the disc better edge wear & wear ability. The Stearate aluminum oxide grit provides a fast, uniform cut. We stock these discs in 5 hole & 8 hole in the 5" size and 6 hole 6" size. This will cover the most popular sanders on the market. These discs can also be used with a standard pad with no punched holes. (Each size and/or grit sold separately) |

Officially produced to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the Russian Revolution, October quickly became another of Sergei Eisenstein's experiments in film form. As in his masterpiece, Battleship Potemkin, Eisenstein uses explosive montage to create the spirit of revolution--in this case, the events in St. Petersburg during the months leading up to the Bolshevik revolt. Eisenstein's insistence on speaking the language of pure film (deploying space, shadow, movement, and rhythm to create his meaning) shoves his mad rush of images straight into the viewer's eye. A worker's rebellion in the streets, followed by the raising of bridges to isolate their neighborhood, becomes a visual symphony of panic. The film has also been known as Ten Days That Shook the World, its release title in the U.S. (borrowed from the book by John Reed). Its value as propaganda can be debated, but October is incredibly dynamic as film art. --Robert Horton |
