We've had quite a few requests over the years for this Cambridge, Mass. acoustic band who, as legend has it, were signed by Al Kooper when he went out to his reception area and found the group performing for the Columbia office secretaries! In fact, Kooper was so taken by them (principally guitarist/songwriter John Compton and violinist Robin Batteau, who later turned up in the band Pierce Arrow) that this album featured appearances by members of Blood, Sweat & Tears and by Kooper himself! We're reissuing this lost 1969 classic with original artwork and new notes featuring quotes from John Compton himself...a Collectors' Choice Music exclusive!Tags : Appaloosa

Marlon Brando is a saddle tramp who has "killed and sinned" but who now wants only to settle down and breed horses. John Saxon is a Mexican outlaw. Their battle begins when Saxon steals Brando's prize Appaloosa stallion and retreats to his carefully guarded Mexican village hide-away. Frank Skinner's "snake-rattle" musical score, beautiful scenic photography and colorful performances by a strong supporting cast vividly enrich the Western atmosphere of this fascinating film. |
Appaloosa (Phaseolus Vulgaris) Bean is related to the kidney bean and is a hybrid of the pinto bean. The Appaloosa is an elegant, elongated bean. The front portion of the bean is ivory colored and the posterior end is a speckled purple and mocha. This bean is about 1/2 inch long with the speckled markings similar to Appaloosa ponies. This bean has a mild flavor and firm texture. The Appaloosa was developed in the area of eastern Washington & northern Idaho, known as the Palouse. This particular bean is used in chili, cooked or mashed (like the pinto), with a hot sauce and served as a side dish. Use some creativity and mash with onions, hot peppers and tomatoes! |

The Appaloosa descends from the spotted horses developed in the 1800s by the Nez Perce Indians, who selectively bred them to be hardy and agile for hunting and war. Today, those same qualities have helped Appaloosas succeed in many disciplines, such as jumping, dressage, racing, reining and roping. The breed is most recognizable by its spotted coat patterns, mottled (spotted) skin around the eyes and muzzle and its striped hooves. Scale 1:9. Ages 8+ |
Told through a horse’s eyes, here is the entrancing tale of an Appaloosa who finds a chance to renew his trust, and of the humans he helps to restore. On the night that Chancey is born, a "fire star" gallops across the sky, a signal that a great horse has entered the world. But it will take many years of slights and hardships before the orphaned albino will believe that the prophecy is truly meant for him. First he must find a home at the Maury River Stables and a girl named Claire who needs him as much as he needs her. Then, when his aching joints and impending blindness bring an end to their training together, he must start a new chapter as a therapeutic horse, healing people with wounds both visible and unseen. In the manner of a latter-day Black Beauty, Chancey’s observant voice narrates this absorbing story, filled with fascinating details of life at the stable and keen insight into equine instinct, human emotion, and the ineffable bond that connects them both. |
