Ceramic knives offer exceptional strength, unparalleled sharpness, and ultra-light weight. An Oriental-style santoku knife is just right for sushi and sashimi, slicing mushrooms or anything else that needs to be sliced paper thin, mincing ginger, and scoring meat and fish. The paring knife is the ideal tool for peeling, paring, and cutting fruits and vegetables. And, because ceramic doesn't transfer metal ions to foods, fruits and vegetables won't brown where they've come in contact with the knife blade. The razor sharp blade retains its original sharpness for months or years without sharpening. The light weight of ceramic creates a well-balanced knife that is an extension of your hand, gliding effortlessly through even the most difficult tasks. The resin handle provides a highly controlled grip, and the non-stick ceramic blade surface makes for easy clean-up. Gift-boxed set of 2: 5˝" Santoku knife and 3" paring knife, with black blades and handles. The strength and density of fine ceramic allows grinding to microscopic precision by diamond wheels. This hardness translates into a rock-like edge which retains its edge 10 times longer than conventional steel blades. Made in Japan. Five year limited warranty against breakage (does not cover cutting bones, prying, or flexing). Contact us for re-sharpening service.

Before We Are the World, before the Amnesty International concerts, before Live Aid, Live 8, 46664, and all the other charitable and/or political events that have used popular music as their principal draw, there was George Harrison's 1971 Concert for Bangladesh, a stirring affair released here in a fine two-disc set. The cause--raising money for the beleaguered people of Bangladesh (formerly East Pakistan), who were ravaged by war, floods, and famine--was enough to attract the support of stars like the former Beatle, who had never fronted a band before, along with Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton, both of whom had been out of the limelight for some years due to various personal problems and choices. Given the little time that Harrison, whose help had been solicited by sitar master Ravi Shankar, had to organize the affair, the results are very impressive indeed: the enormous band, which also features Ringo Starr, Leon Russell, and Billy Preston, is tight, the music (spotlighting tunes from Harrison's All Things Must Pass, along with a few Beatle numbers) inspired, the musicians at the top of their games. (Only Clapton is sub-par; looking out of it and playing weakly, he's a far cry from the guy who, some 30 years later, would spearhead the magnificent Concert for George.) For some, the opportunity to see Dylan onstage with Harrison, Starr, and Russell (playing bass) will be the big attraction. Others will thrill to the remastered DVD sound and restored picture. Still others will revel in an entire disc of bonus material, including three previously-unreleased performances and a documentary featuring new interviews with many of the participants. 1971 was a bleak period in rock history; the Beatles had broken up, Hendrix, Joplin, and Morrison were dead, Woodstock was a distant memory. The Concert for Bangladesh shone like a beacon, a revelation of the better angels that reside within us all. And it still does. --Sam Graham

The show begins with rapturous applause from the audience, strobe-lit flashes of each original band member--Nick Rhodes, Simon LeBon, and the (unrelated) Taylors John, Andy, and Roger--and they're off. The reunited Duran Duran, filmed during a two-night stand at Wembley Arena in 2004, plunges into "(Reach Up for the) Sunrise," before launching into old favorites like "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "Something I Should Know." LeBon keeps the stage patter to a minimum; it's all about the music. On occasion, the Armani-clad quintet are joined by statuesque singer Sara Brown ("Come Undone," "Notorious," "The Reflex," etc.) and sax man Andy Hamilton ("Union of the Snake," "Rio"). As expected from a band that came to fame during the height of the video era, film and anime images are projected during certain numbers, such as "The Chauffeur," "Careless Memories" and "A View to a Kill" (grainy Rhodes-shot images of Liz Hurley rather than scenes from the James Bond outing of the same name). The one selection that doesn't quite fit the 20-song set is 1988's "I Don't Want Your Love." With Brown's help, they give it their all, but funk-metal isn't really Duran Duran's strong suit (although the song later appears as a 3D bonus feature). The deluxe edition includes a 10-track CD recorded during the same London engagement and a pair of 3D glasses. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Missionaries travel to the Brazilian rain forest and make a mess of everything. What else is new? Actually, plenty in this dark but beautifully realized adaptation of Peter Matthiessen's well-regarded novel, directed by Hector Babenco. Aidan Quinn, Daryl Hannah, Kathy Bates, and John Lithgow play the Americans who travel to the Brazilian interior in an effort to do some good. But their definitions of good vary wildly; Bates and Lithgow are old-fashioned puritans who want to convert the heathens to Christianity and remove all traces of their own culture. Quinn and Hannah are more spiritually minded, hoping to make a connection and a cultural exchange with the Indians they encounter. In the end, they're all delusional, trapped in their own preconceptions. Downbeat but magical in its way, with sterling performances all around and amazing scenery, to say the least. --Marshall Fine

Director Martin Scorsese reunites with members of his GoodFellas gang (writer Nicholas Pileggi; actors Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Frank Vincent) for a three-hour epic about the rise and fall of mobster Sam "Ace" Rothstein (De Niro), a character based on real-life gangster Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal. (It's modeled after on Wiseguy and GoodFellas and Pileggi's true crime book Casino: Love and Honor in Las Vegas.) Through Rothstein, the picture tells the story of how the Mafia seized, and finally lost control of, Las Vegas gambling. The first hour plays like a fascinating documentary, intricately detailing the inner workings of Vegas casinos. Sharon Stone is the stand out among the actors; she nabbed an Oscar nomination for her role as the voracious Ginger, the glitzy call girl who becomes Rothstein's wife. The film is not as fast paced or gripping as Scorsese's earlier gangster pictures ( Mean Streets and GoodFellas), but it's still absorbing. And, hey--it's Scorsese! --Jim Emerson

Nunsense The Little Sisters of Hoboken, residents of Mt. St. Helens Convent and teachers at the school, have a problem. It seems Sister Julia (Child of God) has accidentally killed off 52 sisters with a botulism-laced vichyssoise. But even worse, the remaining nuns only had enough cash to bury 48 of the dearly departed; the other four are in the freezer. Nunsense is a benefit concert staged by the Little Sisters to raise money for a proper burial (before the health inspector comes). Mother Superior Mary Regina (Rue McClanahan) is determined to put on a good show and raise some money with the help of her faithful followers Sister Robert Anne (Christine Anderson), Sister Mary Amnesia (Semina De Laurentis), Sister Mary Leo (Christine Toy), and Sister Mary Hubert (Terri White). McClanahan knows how to work a live audience and keeps them laughing. Though she's not a singer, she admirably talks her way through Dan Goggin's songs. The other sisters have terrific voices; while most of the songs are chorus style, each does get a chance to shine. Streetwise Sister Robert Anne's number "I Just Want to Be a Star" is particularly good, and a medley by the "St. Andrews Sisters" exemplifies the sisters' lovely and strong harmony. Nunsense, filmed off-Broadway in 1993, is good, clean fun filled with enthusiastic performers and well-done songs. The choreography, however, is rather unimaginative. You don't need to have attended Catholic school to enjoy Nunsense. There are a few pokes at the Catholic religion, but Nunsense is mainly a gentle send-up of the convent way of life, told through the lens of a zany musical comedy. --Dana Van Nest Nunsense 2 After their hit benefit concert Nunsense, the Little Sisters of Hoboken have caught the "theater flea," as Mother Superior Regina calls it. Just six weeks later, they're back with Nunsense 2: The Sequel as a "thank you" performance. And this time the sisters are really giving it all they've got, as they've heard there's a talent scout in the audience! Nunsense 2: The Sequel has more of the same gentle humor (and Dan Goggin songs) that made the original a hit and once again gives each nun a chance to show her stuff. Sister Mary Leo is more determined than ever to be the first Ballerina Nun and Sister Mary Paul (AKA Amnesia) gets another chance to show her country-music chops. Though Sister Robert Anne (Christine Anderson) is still Mother Superior's understudy, this time she has several solo numbers. "Remembering Annie Greene," the story of a woman trying to meld her former self with life as a nun, is a beautiful and poignant song. After the rollicking "A Convent Song," Mary Paul (Semina De Laurentis) sings a heart-stirring goodbye when the Franciscans come to claim her (but luckily, it turns out the Franciscans are a sham and she gets to stay). Rue McClanahan as Mother Superior gets a solo this time and sings/talks her way through it admirably. If you liked Nunsense, you'll like Nunsense 2: The Sequel, filmed on tour in 1994. But don't expect anything new--the sequel repeats the structure of the first performance almost exactly--right down to the slightly naughty double entendres (nuns shouldn't say that!) and Catholic humor. --Dana Van Nest

From the vast emptiness of the Polo Grounds to the thunderous roar of the Meadowlands, NFL Films documents the incredible history of the New York Jets. Covering 47 seasons of passion, J-E-T-S takes you from the dismal hilarity of the early years, through the Joe Namath era, the New York Sack Exchange, the heartbreak kids of 1986 right up to the Eric Mangini era of today. The history of the New York Jets is unlike any other in the history of the NFL. Born into anonymity, formed on the consistent verge of bankruptcy, to love the Jets is to dream. In January of 1969, the dream became reality as the Jets overcame the greatest odds in sports history to win Super Bowl III. But the euphoria of an incredible upset came at a price - for the next thirty-eight seasons the Jets would suffer one heartbreaking post-season loss after another. And yet Jets fans remain firm in their hope and their loyalty. Each year, the Jets are in the hunt-and their fans believe that each season will be the one to reclaim the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Since 1960 some of the game's greatest heroes, and anti-heroes have performed in front of the game's most loyal football fans. This is their story.

These Kyocera Ceramic knives are a unique alternative to metal-based versions with a resin handle for a highly controlled grip. Unlike a forged metal blade, which is soft and susceptible to chemical corrosion, the Kyocera zirconium oxide blade resists this wear and holds its edge for months to years without sharpening. It holds its edge much longer than steel and lasts many months or years without sharpening. Stain and rust-resistant, the blade is impervious to the food acids, which discolor steel products and no metallic taste or smell will be absorbed your food from the knife. A non-stick ceramic surface makes for easy cleanup and a lightweight and perfect balance make it a pleasure to use. What more could you ask for, especially since Kyocera knives come with a five year limited warranty against breakage (does not cover cutting bones, prying or flexing).
