English manufacturer Salter understands that the best cooking requires impeccable standards in precision. A slight measurement difference between two and four ounces of minced jalapeno pepper in a recipe can mean disaster. To avoid such mishaps, Salter created this microtronic scale. With its compact size and simple design, users profit by easy storage whether on a countertop or a drawer. The scale features a round 5-3/4-inch diameter plate upon which to place ingredients. Its careful construction maintains standards in both appearance and flavor, combating residual stains and flavors from previous use. With a handy conversion switch, ingredients may be measured in either the metric or imperial system, enabling cooks to prepare recipes from overseas without rummaging for a calculator. The scale handles quantities weighing up to 5 pounds, marked by the LCD display in 1/8-ounce increments. For the metric system mode, the scale measures with 2-gram increases with up to 2 kilograms capacity. For measurement with bowls or other containers, users need only place the empty container on the scale and press the power button to set the measurement to zero for isolated ingredient weights. The scale also features an automatic zero setting and shutdown, extending the long life of the replaceable lithium batteries. For the best care, wipe down the scale with a damp cloth or a gentle cleanser. Batteries are included with this scale. Salter offers a ten-year warranty on this product. The scale measures 6-3/4 by 7-1/2 by 1-1/2 inches. --Jessica Reuling |
Butternut is one of the best woods for traditional carvings which are to be finished natural. The light brown color with distinct grain pattern as well as soft texture and uniform density make butternut perfect for antique shore birds, decoys and animals, or other carvings where an antique look is desired. Some of our butternut may contain small pin holes from borers. While the borers are gone, the holes remain and the wood has an old appearance. Our practice block is 1 1/2" square by 10" long and is sold individually. |
Director Lasse Hallstrom's recipe for Chocolat is bittersweet, a tale of human hope and frailty imbued with no small amount of symbolism. It's a story that requires a deft, sensitive musical touch, and Hallstrom has wisely turned again to English composer Rachel Portman for the honors. As she did on The Legend of Bagger Vance and her previous, Academy Award-nominated collaboration with Hallstrom, The Cider House Rules, Portman walks the fine line between preciousness and delicacy with grace and dignity. The gypsy flavor of Django Reinhardt's and Stephane Grappelli's "Minor Swing" sets the story's place and time, while Portman's gentle pastoral melodies outline its emotional core, with a few gratifying excursions into more Euro-ethnic music to keep it well-seasoned. The result is another quiet, powerful Portman masterpiece. --Jerry McCulley |
Despite the number of guests on hand, Dr. Dre's decade-/century-/millennium-ending sequel to The Chronic is, like its predecessor, less a stack of posse cuts and more an elegantly seamless work from West Coast hip-hop's premier auteur. Deliberately cinematic in everything from its mix of moods to dramatic musical surges, 2001 is Dre's assessment of the gangsta life in medium shots. No longer fully immersed in violence and random sex, yet aware of their attraction, he often lets his guests blow steam about whatever's on their minds. When he takes stock of gangbanging circa late '99, though, he drops his neutral tone; he even provides another half-joking but stern warning to protégé Eminem on "What's the Difference." Between his discovery of Slim Shady, visits from old pal Snoop Dogg, and, most of all, the masterful sound and flow of this CD, Dre should shut down all talk of his supposed irrelevance. --Rickey WrightTags : 2001

A movie about a middle schooler losing his lucky medallion and morphing into a leprechaun may be no match for Britney and the boys in the tween turn-on arena, but Luck of the Irish is not without its charms. Ryan Merriman plays Kyle Johnson, basketball whiz and all-around It boy, who's flummoxed by school Heritage Day--as far as he knows, he's from Cleveland. A little rooting around reveals not just Irish but leprechaun roots, and then things really get freaky--Kyle's ears go Vulcan and the slam-dunker's suddenly a shrinky-dink. Juicing up the high jinks here are a must-win basketball game and the devotion of a do-gooder gal pal. Luck, produced by the Disney Channel, not only has bright young actors on its side, it's also studded with moments of goofball funniness. Present it as the pot of gold at the end of a dreary school day, then dust it off again for St. Patty's. --Tammy La Gorce |
Barney and the kids use letters to imagine a whole alphabet zoo. The kids imitate animals and sing about tigers and camels and kookaburras. Julie's Aunt Molly drops by with a funny story told in animal sounds, and Jason shows us how to say "I love you" in sign language. It's another imaginative episode matching some educational elements with pure fun. Among the tunes: "Animals in Motion" and "Down by the Station." --Tom Keogh |
Wrestlemania 17 may go down as the biggest, most lucrative Pay-Per-View in 2001, but as far as quality goes, many wrestling fans will tell you it was No Way Out, a mere month before Wrestlemania, that showcased the best wrestling of the year. Rarely can a three-hour Pay-Per-View hold your attention throughout, without any down time, but the action-packed NWO does just that. WWF's writers worked up enough soap opera drama to make each of these matches interesting. Whether it's the ultimate cat fight for "female domination" in the WWF, between Stephanie and Trish Stratus, the Rock trying to regain the WWF Championship from a whiny Kurt Angle, or Jerry "the King" Lawler fighting for the Right for Nudity against Steven Richards, NWO never lets up. The culmination of a great evening is the brutal, exhausting, nearly 40-minute battle between Stone Cold Steve Austin and "the Game" Triple H. The men have generated the sickest feud in federation history, and it all comes to a head in a two-out-of-three-falls match. The first fall is a typical one-on-one match; the second is an anything-goes street fight match; and the third takes place in a steel cage. In what should go down as one of the nastiest, liveliest matches in history, both men give the fans everything they have. In a rarity, so does the WWF with this PPV. --Dave McCoy |

Introducing fine Pu-erh teas from the Haiwan factory! The Haiwan facility was started by M.R. Zhou Bing Liang, known for his superb management of the renown Menghai factory in China. The Haiwan Ripe Beeng tea cakes are cooked and ready to drink. Complete with inner and outer labels, production #108, these are the eighth line of teas from the 2001 season. These premier teas from the Liang Haiwan factory are sure to become prized collector items. The leaves are still intact and of a significant size, both signs of a superior Pu-erh. The teas taste great now, and are sure to improve with age. Cakes are 350 grams, and yield 75 servings or more!
Pu-erh teas are aged before they are consumed, unlike other teas which are meant to be consumed shortly after production. Pu-erh teas are at least 1-4 years old, but can also be aged for more than 50 years! Over this time, Pu-erh teas ferment, which leads to their earthy flavor, as opposed to the flavor of oolong or black teas, which comes from oxidation. Pu-erh teas are unique among tea varieties because they do not lose qualities after a year or two, but rather gain in value, and are classified by connoisseurs by year of production. |
This Bingcha is a mellow version of Green Pu-erh. Give it a few years of aging, and let it become an amazing brew under your very nose! 350 grams. Produced in the Six Famous Tea Mountains Factory.
