Herman's Hermits starring Peter Noone - Love Potion #9 (The Clovers cover) - The Battle Of New Orleans (written by Jimmie Driftwood recorded by many, most associated w/ Johnny Horton's 1959 recording) - Dandy - Folsome Prison Blues (Johnny Cash cover) @ the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Santa Cruz, California - June 27th, 2008 (see lyrics below)
Herman's Hermits starring Peter Noone was number four on our summer concert agenda. We are huge fans of the British Invasion of the 1960s. However, even if we were not, we would still love Peter Noone immensely. He is such a great showman and going to his concerts have become a yearly event for my family. If fact, we are actually card-carrying members of his fan club. We were able to see the show right on the beach at the historic Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. What a fun and memorable experience. The city of Santa Cruz really goes all out to attract tourism. Definitely, go see Peter Noone's show. He is funny, friendly, and genuinely personable. Mr. Noone is a true gentleman. We were amazed at how many teens and young adults seemed familiar with this music. Everyone, young and old, sang along, danced, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Also, catch the free Friday night oldies concerts held at the Boardwalk. These shows have great acts, are very family orientated, and did I mention they are free of charge. You will have to wait in line for a good seat. We arrived at 11:15 am for a 6:30 pm show and still had over 20 people ahead of us. This was a gigantic crowd. But great extras like allowing ice-chests and low lawn-chars, as well as, two different autograph sessions, makes this a must-revisit venue.

Love Potion #9 lyrics
(The Clovers)
I took my troubles down to Madame Rue
You know that gypsy with the gold-capped tooth
She's got a pad down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine
Sellin' little bottles of Love Potion Number Nine
I told her that I was a flop with chics
I've been this way since 1956
She looked at my palm and she made a magic sign
She said "What you need is Love Potion Number Nine"
She bent down and turned around and gave me a wink
She said "I'm gonna make it up right here in the sink"
It smelled like turpentine, it looked like Indian ink
I held my nose, I closed my eyes, I took a drink
I didn't know if it was day or night
I started kissin' everything in sight
But when I kissed a cop down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine
He broke my little bottle of Love Potion Number Nine
------ guitar solo ------
I held my nose, I closed my eyes, I took a drink
I didn't know if it was day or night
I started kissin' everything in sight
But when I kissed a cop down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine
He broke my little bottle of Love Potion Number Nine
Love Potion Number Nine
Love Potion Number Nine
Love Potion Number Nine

Dandy
Dandy, Dandy
Where you gonna go now?
Who you gonna run to?
All your little life
You're chasin' all the girls
They can't resist your smile
Uh-hmm, they long for
Dandy, Dandy
Chattin' up the ladies
Ticklin' their fancy
Pourin' out your charms
To meet your own demands
And you turn it off at will
Huh-oh, they long for
Dandy, Dandy
Knockin' on the back door
Climbin' through the window
Hubby's gone away
And while the cat's away
The mice are gonna play
Uh-hmm, you low-down
Dandy, Dandy, Dandy
Dandy, you know you're moving much too fast
And Dandy, you know you can't escape the past
Look around you and see the people settle down
And when you're old and grey
You will remember what they said
That two girls are too many,
Three's a crowd and four you're dead
Oh Dandy, Dandy
When you gonna give up?
Are you feelin' old now?
You always will be free
And you need no sympathy
A bachelor you will stay
And Dandy you're all right
You're all right
You're all right
Folsom Prison Blues
I hear the train a comin'
It's rolling round the bend
And I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't know when,
I'm stuck in Folsom prison, and time keeps draggin' on
But that train keeps a rollin' on down to San Antone..
When I was just a baby my mama told me. Son,
Always be a good boy, don't ever play with guns.
But I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die
When I hear that whistle blowing, I hang my head and cry..
I bet there's rich folks eating in a fancy dining car
They're probably drinkin' coffee and smoking big cigars.
Well I know I had it coming, I know I can't be free
But those people keep a movin'
And that's what tortures me...
Well if they freed me from this prison,
If that railroad train was mine
I bet I'd move it on a little farther down the line
Far from Folsom prison, that's where I want to stay
And I'd let that lonesome whistle blow my blues away.....
